In the hill country near Ripley in northeast Mississippi, Logan Yancey, 30, is a first-generation livestock producer balancing his resources between cattle farming and fencing. From a young age, he has had a passion for farming, stating, “I’d rather work 100 hours for myself than 40 for someone else.”
He shares, “My grandparents and great-grandparents were farmers, but none of that legacy was handed down to me. I essentially started from scratch, building the infrastructure, fencing, barns, equipment, and cattle all on my own since I was 15.”
As he expanded his business, Yancey realized he needed financial assistance. He explains, “Many banks ask for comprehensive business plans and seek guarantees that you won’t fail. It was difficult to earn their trust. However, Mississippi Land Bank believed in me. They knew I had the work ethic to succeed. And they understand ag.” The initial relationship started with a loan for cattle and then evolved into acquiring equipment and building a shop with an office. With Mississippi Land Bank's support throughout the process, Yancey’s dreams have become a reality.
